I didn't take any pictures, but I was walking my friend's dog Rudi this weekend. He broke his collarbone (my friend, not the dog) and walking a dog in ice and snow is a bad idea. It's an even worse idea when your dog is a 10-month old hyperactive border-collie mix.
The last night, Saturday, I brought Leo with me on the walk. Of course, this meant it was going to be a bit shorter - Leo's 11 years, Rudi's 10 months. Leo had to walk up the stairs first, and his old hips weren't happy. And Leo's got cancer. Rudi doesn't.
Leo was so good with Rudi. Just amazing. Rudi is rather... enthusiastic. He jumps, nibbles, and generally is rather rambunctious when meeting other dogs. Leo is a lot more sedate. So wrangling that on my own was trying.
The walking was fine. Actually, it was quite cute. Rudi kept looking over to Leo, almost like a look for approval. And Leo turned it on - he was full on "leader of the pack", with a really confident walk, tail and head high, almost prancing. The cold didn't seem to bother him - and it was COLD. Like, below zero wind chill cold. And we were down by the river (really cool, by the way, all the ice was coming in. Again, no pictures because I had 2 dogs with me!).
So, he's good with Rudi. And good walking in the cold. And generally doing great! So that's a positive.
