The bad news is that the Lomustine really didn't do anything. I think it arrested the growth of his lymph nodes for about a weekend, and then they came raging back. We were in the office a week later.
The good news is we decided to give Vincristine another shot, and this... well, it worked! (So far). The nodes are smaller. Well, I hope it's from the Vincristine.
So, last week we tried the Lomustine - the rescue therapy that was supposed to give us another 3 months or so. Unfortunately, that really didn't do much. The oversized lymph nodes that were really worrisome became small, hard lymph nodes. He seemed... sick. And then they started to swell up again. And that was crushing. The reality of the situation is that once that's out, well, we're out. Out of ammo. Out of options. Out of time.
Leo went on prednisone as the therapy-of-last resort on Tuesday to keep him breathing - he was getting raspy and congested. We made an appointment for Thursday to discuss options and (possibly) the end game.
Of course, I'm not one to give up, and Leo seemed... well, aside from the raspiness, he's seemed fine. Slower, a lot more pokey, but still, well, still Leo. Doing Leo stuff! So that's been really hard. At the appointment, we started discussing options, and the idea of going back to Vincristine came up. So, we tried it. And now his nodes are a lot smaller. Plump, yes. Noticeable on palpitation? Yes. But smaller? Most certainly. There's actually a node on the right side of his neck that splits into two when it is swollen. That one is way down, and the rest are fading away. We will see how long this lasts - 2 weeks? 3 weeks? And how long it remains effective. But, for now, there's some hope. And perhaps, some camping once he's feeling better.
